Come down to the Festival Information Tents between 7.30pm-8.30pm at The Eye of York (York Castle Museum) and Dean’s Park and meet Ben Stern one of the artists behind Envisions (Eyeof York, Casle Museum) and Karen Monid the artist behind Contours (Dean’s Park). Find out fascinating facts about these amazing artworks and find out how they work.

Illuminating York would like to invite you to 2 free talks by the lead exhibiting artists of this year’s Illuminating York Festival. Find out more from GaiaNova United VJs, the artists commissioned to produce this year’s central piece ”Envisions” and Karen Monid, the British sound artist responsible for “Contours” a specially produced audio piece which forms part of the supporting programme. Both artists will talk about the inspiration behind their art and experiences in producing their piece. We hope you can join us for this fascinating insight into the dedicated efforts which go into producing these magnificent works of art.

Bangers and Beer by Candlelight at Bedern Hall

“CLOSE”

A Victorian English gothic play written and produced in-house using local actors. The play last approimately one hour and explores the effects of social isolation on an individuals close relationships. The play also features an original soundtrack which was specially devised to accompany the production.

Fairfax House will be opening its doors after dark for a highly unusual and illuminating candlelit performance by the mansion’s ‘original Georgian inhabitants’. Electric lighting will be strictly taboo! You will be taken through the House by Lord Fairfax and members of his household staff by candlelight and given an unvarnished insight into 18th century life.

National Trust Treasurer’s House ‘A Ghostly Glow’

A new presentation of this historic gem promises to impress for its third festival year. A fusion of light, sound and ghostly tales illuminates the past in this most historic of houses and gardens. A spell is cast over grand period rooms and from the shadows a ghostly glow reveals some spine-tingling stories. Ghost cellar tours also available. Families welcome. Light refreshments available and meals.

“Saints Alive”

Torchlit tours of York Castle museum on 28th and 29th October 2011. Tours start at 7pm and last approximately two and a half hours, with a break in the middle when light refreshments will be served. The museum will be blacked out and the tours will be lit by torches. Guides will tell tales of the days when the museum was a prison as well as various spooky happenings experienced by people over the years.
