The internationally renowned Illuminating York Festival took place from Wednesday 31 October to Saturday 3 November in York Museum Gardens, which was transformed into a mystical, magical wonderland!

A collaboration between York based artists Bright Light Ltd, the renowned Vic Reeves, Bar Lane Studios, Arup and Chetwoods Architects, this year’s theme was Wonderland!

Visitors were invited to be transported through the glorious chaos and absurd art that was the amazing Wonderland starring Vic Reeves.

Old world met new, as the hauntingly beautiful ruins of St Mary’s Abbey provided the background to a very modern technological marvel. Modern lighting and technology transformed the peaceful, tranquil gardens into a maze of magic, mayhem and mischief.

This year for the very first time visitors to the main event had exclusive access to areas of York Museum Gardens which are not usually open to the public .
