The Festival
Using groundbreaking video mapping technology, GaiaNova and United VJs will present a breathtaking audio-visual performance which will transform the former Women’s Prison in the Eye of York (the north building of the York Castle Museum) into a spectacular vision of colour and imagery.
There is also an extensive programme of supporting events, and many of York’s attractions will be opening their doors after hours for special performances, light installations, and art exhibitions. For those wishing to make an evening of it, a number of city centre bars, restaurants and cafés are offering special offers and discounts.
Illuminating York is one of York’s biggest annual events, last year attracting more than 60,000 visitors. Over the past six years the festival has presented specially commissioned digital artworks on several of the city’s historic buildings (including York Minster, the Yorkshire Museum and the Bar Walls), celebrating York’s unique architecture and bringing internationally renowned artists to the city centre for thousands to enjoy.
